LIDO sued for not labeling expiration date
The complaint of a consumer to the CDC's legal advising phone number started the process of presenting a lawsuit to the Defensoría del Consumidor.

The Consumer's Defense Center (CDC) presented a complaint against the LIDO SA de CV company before the Defensoría del Consumidor, for breaching the Consumer's Protection Law by not labeling the expiration date on individual packages of the "Super Cremosa" cookies, which is also a violation of the General Regulation for Labeling of Packed Food.

The omission of the LIDO, SA de CV company violates the basic right of consumers of receiving truthful, clear and appropriate information, and the related with printing vital information in order to protect the health of consumers, especially children who eat these cookies.

In April of this year, the Consumer's Defense Center talked directly with the Production Manager of the LIDO SA de CV company, Miguel Miranda, with the aim of correcting this situation, however, despite his commitment to correct this omission, so far has not happened.

Currently, the expiration date is shown only in the 10 cookies package, but it not found in the wrapper of the 40 gram cookie, which violates the Consumer's Protection Law and the Salvadoran Obligatory Regulation NSO 67.10.01:03.

Therefore, the CDC asks the Defensoría del Consumidor:

  1. To perform a verification with the purpose of verifying the infraction to the aforementioned regulations.
  2. To start the legal procedure of applying the article 143, letters "b" and "d" of the Consumer's Protection Law.
  3. To apply the appropriate sentence to the LIDO SA de CV company, for widespread, systematic and damaging omission to the basic rights to information, safety and quality of food.
